About Bulldog Athletics

Mission

Berean Christian School exists in partnership with parents and the local church to EMPOWER students to walk as Jesus walked, ENRICH students with academics enveloped in a biblically-based Christian world view, and help students EXPERIENCE their God-given and unique giftedness for success in the future.

History

Berean Christian School was founded by Berean Baptist Church in 1964. Located at that time on Australian Avenue, the school was named Lakeview Christian School. Beginning as a preschool, grades were added each year, and the first high school class graduated in 1976.

In 1986, the church and school were relocated to a new larger campus at its present location. Now BCS has over 750 students and 80 faculty and staff members. BCS has a long-standing reputation for spiritual and academic excellence in our community, being voted "Best of the West" of Private Schools in the Forum Publication for 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Berean started its interscholastic athletics program in 1972, fielding soccer and basketball teams that first year.  The school initially adopted the Patriot as its mascot and donned red, white and blue uniforms, but in 2000 the mascot was changed to the Bulldogs and the colors transitioned to Navy and Orange.

In 2006 "The Kennel"- or gymnasium- opened its doors allowing the first contests to be played on campus, and in 2014 the sports field was renovated for competition use.

Since the "Bulldog Era" began the department has been honored with the Florida High School Athletic Association's Fred E. Rozell Sportsmanship Award (2003-04), and has been named the Sun-Sentinel's Most Improved Athletic Program two times (2007, 2013).  The Bulldogs have captured five district championships since 2000 and reintroduced football in 2008.

Bulldog Athletics now offers over thirty teams in more than a dozen sports through which students ranging from kindergarten to high school may participate.
